Named from the French word for lemon, “citron,” as many Citrines produce a juicy lemon color, though they may also be found in a range of pale yellow, to golden brown, and even a lovely burnt amber.  This coloration variation is due to the presence of iron.

Although it seems that Citrine was not as popular in ancient cultures as many other gemstones, it has been told of in history and lore for over 6,000 years.  It was used extensively during the first and second centuries in Greece as well as Rome.  It was used as a talisman against evil though, overindulgences, treachery, scandal and libel.

Due to is lovely color it is recognized as a stone of  happiness, joy, sunshine, light and life.

 

Citrine Scientific Properties

Citrine is the yellow/golden/smoky brown variety of Quartz. Its depth of its color is due to the presence and level of iron.

Citrine is formed in primarily the same manner as Amethyst, being a close sibling, and is found in pegmatites or formed hydrothermally is clefts or druses.

It has been told that yellow Amethyst, as well as Smoky Quartz, have been used as a base and then heat treated to artificially create Citrine, although the color is not quite as lovely as when Mother Nature does the heating.

Sunny Citrine is one of the only gemstones that dispels and dissipates most any and all negative energy, yet never requires cleansing or clearing.  Emitting a warm energy that promotes joy and optimism, it attracts abundance as well, warding off depression, stress and general unhappiness.

Citrine has been commonly known by the names “Success Stone”, “Abundance Stone”, and “Merchants Stone”, told in lore to promote success and abundance specifically in business and commerce. If placed where one conducts business or in the ‘Wealth Corner’ of one’s home, it is said to not only acquire positive wealth, but the ability to maintain it as well.

Citrine enhances the whole body’s healing energy, opening the conscious mind to intuition, and directing creative energy into the open mind.  It is said to help one adjust and adapt to changes and to process those changes, feeling confident and secure in the process.  It’s warm radiating energy may aid in voice projection, which also helps to boost one’s self esteem.

Providing enhancement of self-confidence and positive energy, Citrine helps to eliminate fears related to being judged by others, fear of being alone, as well as feelings of being unworthy of love.

Physically, Citrine may impart energy and invigoration, increasing circulation and detoxification of blood, activating the thymus as well as balancing the thyroid. Which also makes this stone beneficial to the endocrine and digestive systems; cleansing, purifying and eliminating any poisons that may have built up. Citrine is known to transform fears, emotional as well as inherited, offering one the clarity of thought without fear.  Citrine aids in working with a difficult Karma, helping to open the channels to the intuitive mind. Its vibrations will build up physical, emotional, mental and spiritual stamina, making it possible to deal with the difficult Karmic events.

Citrine is often worn at night to eliminate fear, to prevent nightmares and to ensure a sound night’s sleep. It is used to align with the higher self and to protect one’s aura.
