It is Russian legend that tells us that anyone who drinks for a chalice made of Malachite will have the power to understand the language of animals bestowed upon him for eternity.

Malachite was often ground to be used as adornment for they eyelashes and eyelids. Sometimes referred to as the Peacock stone, considered sacred to the Roman goddess Juno (whose sacred bird was the peacock) as she was enchanted by the eye like patterns that the Malachite presents, much like the pattern in a peacocks feather.

Malachite teaches one how to take responsibility for one’s own thoughts, actions and emotions, releasing inhibitions, and encouraging one to express true feelings. Malachite also allows one to feel empathy for another; of ‘being in his shoes’ so that one may be more understanding of the effects of thoughts, actions, and emotions.

Malachite is often worn to detect impending danger. Legend tells us that Malachite will break into pieces to warn it’s wearer of the forthcoming menace.

Long been used in magical rights, Malachite will lend extra energy and power to any ritual, cast, or reading. Wear it, hold it, or place it on the alter to increase one’s ability to send power toward the magical goal. Pendants or beads of Malachite worn against the skin, near the heart, are said to expand one’s ability to love, as well as aiding in drawing love in.

Often used in protective magic, specifically where children are concerned, Malachite may be worn or carried to guard against negativity as well as physical dangers.  If one feels frazzled, frustrated and at the end of one’s rope so to speak, Malachite may offer valuable assistance. But beware, as wearing this stone will amplify any energy one projects…one unkind thought towards another may create a damaging psychological effect. Often when one does this, although unintentionally, the negative energy likely will return thrice fold.

If an elixir is crafted from a Malachite stone, it is recommended that it be a polished stone. As it is a softer stone and susceptible to damage if handled improperly. Especially avoid sudden or extreme temperature changes.

As Malachite does absorb negative energy, especially in healing works, it may become weak or damaged if not cleansed often enough. Cleanse and recharge a Malachite stone by placing it on a Crystal Quartz cluster or in a geode. Some suggest placing it in the sun, some suggest recharging in the earth. It is agreed upon though not to use salt as it will damage the surface of the stone.
