Scientific Properties:
Mohs Hardness of 7 with a trigonal crystal structure.

Chalcedony is micro- or crypto-crystalline quartz that, strictly speaking, includes agate as well as onyx, but which are generally treated as separate gemstones.

Several varieties of chalcedony have names that are used widely in gemology and by lapidaries.

OTHER NAMES: Some chalcedonies with characteristic colors occur rather widely and have had a long history of use as gemstones. Consequently, they have been given names that are applied widely by both professionals and laymen. The names of these rather common color varieties follow:

• Agate
  • Carnelian
  • Onyx
  • Bloodstone
  • Other Misc Agates (i.e.: blue lace, moss, botswana, etc.)
• Chrysoprase
• Heliotrope
• Jasper
  • Other Misc Jaspers (i.e.: picture, poppy, landscape, etc.)
• Tiger's Eye

Mystical Properties:
Blue chalcedony is a stone with a gentle energy that feels a bit dreamy. It fosters balance between mind, body and spirit. It is a stone of calm and peace that reduces or negates hostility, anger, and irritation. Blue chalcedony soothes and fosters mental and emotional stability and can engender emotional honesty.

• Blue, gray and purple chalcedony are told to help one rid themselves of unwanted things in one's life; aids in avoiding messy emotional involvements with cause distress.
• Green chalcedony is told to focus attention on how to relate to others in a loving manner.
• Pink chalcedony strengthens one's self-esteem; makes the wearer more caring of their personal appearance.
• White chalcedony, also known as the "mother stone" is said to shield from negativity as well as cleansing the aura, it as others can stabilize the emotions during trying times.

Healing Properties:
Chalcedony is the best stone to be used for problems with the neck, tonsils and vocal cords. It protects against feverish infections and all different types of inflammation. Chalcedony water can be made by boiling the stone with a pinch of salt and it sued as treatment for hoarseness of the voice.

Powers: Peace, anti-nightmare, travel, protection and luck.

In the sixteenth century, chalcedony was prescribed by magicians to dissolve illusions and fantasies. For this purpose, it was pierced, or drilled and hung about the neck.

It is also commonly used to ward off black magic, psychic attack and other negative magic, as it can repel the negative vibrations and absorb only positive ones.

In Renaissance magic, the stone was engraved with the figure of a man with his right hand upraised, this was worn for success in lawsuits as well as health and safety.

Chalcedony should be cleansed once a month under warm running water, and if at all possible, recharged by being placed overnight in an amethyst geode. Adding Rock crystal and chalcedony in a glass of water overnight will create a wonderful elixir.

Stone of Cancer and Aquarius, although some say it is associated with Saturn. It is considered a good luck stone for Cancer and a protective stone for Sagittarius

Chakra Classification:
Chalcedony should be used with the 5th, or Throat Chakra, but under no account should this stone be placed with azurite because together the stone would develop too strong a power.
